The Mai-Wel Group has been providing a diverse range of disability services to residents of the Hunter Valley for almost 60 years. What began as a group of local families coming together to provide education and opportunity to their children has today developed into a thriving business supporting more than 1,500 participants across seven Local Government areas.

 

 

Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess specific metal working skills, including the ability to read drawings, precise tape measure and rule readings, and proficiency in various metalworking techniques such as welding, marking out, and general fabrication, including folding/bending. We are particularly interested in individuals with professional metal fabrication experience, such as ex-boilermakers or sheet metal workers. This role also involves working with timber, steel, and contributing to grounds maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings. 
  • Accurate tape measure and rule reading skills. 
  • Metal working skills, including welding, marking out, and general fabrication.
  • Set up and operate relevant plant machinery.
  • Utilise metal fabrication skills acquired through previous experience.
  • Comfortable working with various materials, including timber and steel.
  • Contribute to grounds maintenance tasks as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience as a boilermaker, sheet metal worker, or in a related metal fabrication role. (Desired)
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings. (Desired)
  • Accurate tape measure and rule reading skills. (Desired)
  • Demonstrated metalworking skills, including welding and fabrication. (Desired)
  • Ability to set up and operate relevant plant machinery. (Desired)
  • Comfortable working with timber, steel, and engaging in grounds maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
